Plant Based Hair Care: Why Natural Ingredients Are Essential for Your Hair Health

Are you on the plant-based train yet? If you’re anything like us, chances are you’re an advocate for a natural approach when it comes to your health and beauty. In the same way the food we eat effects our inner health, the ingredients in the hair and beauty products we opt for can have a significant impact on skin, hair and nails. Our bodies respond best to natural, fresh and organic ingredients and we can suffer when we have too much processed foods, but did you know the same goes for your hair?

At OMORFIE, we opt for the finest natural ingredients to include in our formulas. With so many incredible benefits and reasons to choose natural ingredients when it comes to hair health, we’ve curated our favourite natural ingredients and why they are essential for your tresses.

ARGAN OIL

Harvested for centuries from the kernels of the Moroccan Argan Tree, women in Morocco have been incorporating this wonder oil in their daily beauty routines for hundreds of years. With such dry heat found in the desert environment, it was harsh on their precious skin and hair but thanks to the use of Argan oil, they were able to maintain a vibrant glow to their skin and hair.

If we’ve learnt anything about beauty rituals, it’s to trust the women who’ve maintained theirs for centuries which is why we’ve formulated our Lush Shampoo & Conditioner and Quench Your Thirst Hair Mask with the deeply regenerative properties of Argan Oil. Rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, Argan Oil nourishes and locks in moisture leaving hair silky and shiny. Argan Oil also works to fight frizz caused by dry, damaged hair and protects strands from UV rays, salt and heat from styling.

QUINOA

More than just a superfood for your insides, quinoa is the ingredient you didn’t know your hair needed. OMORFIE’s Let’s Get Lush Set features hydrolyzed quinoa, a natural protein that is essential for conditioning, protecting and retaining colour in the hair. Packed with vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids, quinoa helps to repair damage whilst coating the hair shaft to protect against future breakage. If strong, damage free hair is on the agenda then look no further than the superpowers of quinoa.

JOJOBA OIL

Despite the name, Jojoba oil is not a true oil, technically it is a wax ester. Its structure is similar to the sebum that our skin naturally produces meaning it hydrates the hair without unbalancing the scalps natural oils and wont clog pores. It’s non-comedogenic properties are just the beginning of its long list of benefits too. Jojoba oil features anti-bacterial properties and these, combined with the presence of Vitamin E, are fantastic for scalp health and protect the hair and scalp from pesky dandruff. Jojoba’s composition allows it to penetrate hair follicles, smoothing imperfections and sealing split ends which means it can do wonders for hair that has been damaged by heat and styling.

Our best-selling Quench Your Thirst Hair Masque features Jojoba oil to help restore dehydrated, damaged and stressed out hair and is the perfect solution for hair that needs a bit of TLC.

MACADAMIA OIL

Another key ingredient in our Quench Your Thirst Hair Masque, Macadamia oil, is native to Australia and is widely used in beauty formulations for its soothing properties. Made up of fatty acids, macadamia oil helps hair retain moisture, promotes softness, brightens dull hair and improves shine.

OLIVE OIL

Good for more than just drizzling on your favourite salad, Olive oil boasts a number of properties that your hair didn’t know it needed. Olive oil is fantastic at adding softness and resilience to your hair thanks to its oleic and palmitic acid and squalene ingredients. Our Let’s Get Lush Set and Quench Your Thirst Hair Masque love a good dose of olive oil and work wonders at softening and smoothing the outer cuticle of the hair, giving it that enviable shine!

LAVENDER EXTRACT

Lavender extract offers some incredible benefits for both your hair and scalp. Studies have proven that as a concentrated essential oil, lavender extract stimulates hair growth, helping it grow thicker and faster. Lavender has also been found to have antimicrobial properties which helps to prevent bacteria, perfecting for mitigating issues such as itchy scalp, dandruff and even infections. Lavender extract works beyond the hair too, invoking a real sense of calm and peace which is a true mood booster and essential for invoking a sense of relaxation. Infuse your hair with calm and soothe irritation with OMORFIE’s Quench Your Thirst Hair Masque which features this wonder ingredient and is ready to work its magic on your tresses!
